Any Kiwis In the House? NZ action on worker deaths, Aug 2015

I'm a bit slack posting details of this, I've been working on it, but it never crossed my mind to share here. Duh. If there are any Kiwis in the house, you're welcome to come along to the demonstrations, its not overly about unionism, the events are actually pretty poignant, with 214 crosses erected to demonstrate worker deaths since promises were made post Pike river. If you cant make it, share the video.

On Friday 24 July the Government announced cuts to workers health and safety rights. Parliament will vote on those changes in mid-August.

    Our plan is simple.

We’re going to travel from the top and bottom the country doing the same action with different local stories.

We'll split into two groups and on Saturday 2 August one will start from Auckland and the other from the bottom of the South Island. They’ll meet in the middle at Parliament on Saturday 8 August.

The action has three key elements:

    1. Strong visual
We’re going to put 214 crosses in a public place. The crosses represent the number of workers who have died since the Government promised to improve health and safety law.

    2. Local, human-interest story
A family affected by a workplace accident or death will help place the crosses. They’ll tell their story and call on the Government to improve the law.

    3. Targeted
The action will be outside a local MP’s office. If it’s a bad site, we’ll use a striking public location.
