    Well said, all; but IMO not addressing the point of the Google Memo discussion.

    AFAICS, the GM issue is about identifying the true causes of unequal gender representation.
    Is it A) biology/choices, or is it B) discrimination/obstacles?
    When you know the true cause you can find the effective remedy.
    Damore merely says that everyone believes it's B, and everyone also resists looking for any other cause.

    Now you give an example of 1 incompetent Tech woman.
    From this, one can either draw conclusions, or not, regarding the issue as described above.

    But I don't see how understanding can or will hinder action; quite the opposite.

    I worked in a large, high tech factory for 31 years. We had maybe 300 production technicians. Normally, we had around 18 women technicians. Male technicians varied in ability all over the place, from geniuses to dumber than a bucket of rocks.

    The women technicians, with the grand total of one exception, were good workers, which means they did a lot of work, but could not deal with the hardest problems. No female super techs, as they called the Top Guns.

    IF I taught them a new diagnostic technique, they could learn it and use it again. But, they never developed really new techniques (except the one exception I mentioned.)

    This may not seem important to you folks, but to me it does. It correlated with the Gaussian Distribution Curve of intelligence for men and for women. Wide spread for men, narrow for women.

    Based on all my life experience, not just in the factory, it is personal preference that marks the difference in diversity, not discrimination nor fail to motivate. Reminds me of the first EEOC vs. Sears case.

    What I cannot do, is give an example of a technically competent one though ... I am yet to meet one and I deal with a whole lotta people in a whole lotta ways.
