    yeah, that was it: Dropbox somehow does some voodoo to prevent hotlinking. based on some criteria it serves the image up fine to the single computer I first made the post on. still now even. so I had no idea it wasn't a valid link for anyone else. very weird. if anyone knows anything about mod_rewrite or .htaccess then they know more than I do. I really ought to finally learn how to internet some day.

    OK, testing with the same image on Onedrive instead of Dropbox. I think Dropbox might be doing something hinky to prevent hotlinking that MS hasn't implemented yet. they're probably trying to hard to steal Dropbox's market share to implement crap like that. yet.

    oh! I see it now. or don't see it I mean. on a different computer and the image link is broken. that's what you meant Imdefender, thanks got it finally. Dropbox is killing me, gonna move it to the MS thing.

    ok, confused now. image shows on desktop machine but not on laptop. can you guys see the fighter pilot?
