  • Subtle Misandry in Advertising? You Decide...

This ad showed up in "Entrepreneur" magazine. I'm not quite sure what it is they are supposed to be selling-- but my first reaction was a "kick in the nuts".

Also, the version in the magazine did not include the text on the left side of the image.

    So what do you think?

None of the girls appear to be watching the ball in the air-- but rather focused on his crotch. He is the only one watching the ball.

      Can't read the words.

It looks like they're fighting over the guy like they would over a soccer ball?

      idk

In the version I saw in the magazine, there were no words-- just a full size, double-page photo, which had the logo in the lower right, but nothing else. I didn't even know what they were selling until I tried to find the picture online someplace.

It's an ad for ISAIA Napoli MEN'S wear. I found a bigger, but for some reason split, copy of the picture here. The text reads "Brian Cook, Isaia's made to measure specialist, will be in the store all day Thursday March 10th with an expanded collection of ISAIA clothing and custom fabrics." I'm not really sure what the point of the ad is... It looks like the guy (Brian?) is putting on some kind of Superman pose as he tries to fly for the ball. Maybe it's supposed to mean that their clothes are so well made, you can even shrug off a kick in the nuts? Not that he's even being kicked in the nuts in this picture... the kick's too high and off to his right. While the one closest to him definitely appears to be checking out his "package", to me it looks like the one on the right is checking out his chest, while the one on the left has a real hate on for him and wants to roundhouse kick him in the head.
When a woman says to a man 'IF you really love me you would (INSERT VERB HERE)... 'IF you really love me you should buy/give/take/do X, Y, Z'... That's using...that's testing. And my answer to that is always; 'IF you loved me you wouldn't have asked that fucking question, now pack your shit and get the fuck out of my house.' - Maxx

He's a fashionable Italian. He doesn't need no stinking socks.

I don't really care about misandry in advertising (subtle or otherwise) anymore. Let the ladies get their kicks.

This soccer advert is CLEARLY sexist.

The man's in a suit, not the kinda outfit you wear if you intend to actually break a sweat and put some actual effort into the sport you are playing.

Despite this fact, he's beating three women dressed like professional soccer players and all wearing the correct footwear to a ball that he clearly appears to be confidently heading towards the goal.

This is despite the fact that at least two of women appear to be committing obvious fouls against him, and a third which appears poised to illegally grab the ball out of the air with her hands. It's almost like it's implying these women don't understand the rules of the sport they are trying to play.

This advert is saying that even when men aren't taking soccer seriously aren't dressed for it, don't have the correct footwear one of them can STILL beat three professionally dressed women to the ball, and that these useless women can't even stop him by kicking him in the balls.

                Outrageous!

This is EXACTLY the sort of blatant sexism and misogyny that feminists do a wonderful job drawing attention to!

A feminist approved soccer advert would look something like this -
