  • Well, Trump just fucked me

Federal hiring is now frozen, after having not caught up with the backlog of unfilled positions from the last hiring freeze.

Who is inspecting your food for safety? Almost every meatpacking plant in America is short-handed in inspectors.

Worse, the people who would have been hired are now going to be competing for private sector jobs.

And, of course, let's not neglect the damage to our R&D efforts.

At least he ditched the TPP.

Sorry for your personal loss in this, but the fed is broke.. as in.. has NO money. Its been broke for years, and you've had to have known this. Trillions of dollars.. Americans just can't keep passing on the debt to the next generation.

Embrace competition, hell embrace entrepreneurship and start your own private inspection services if there is a back-log... see a need, fill a need. America's opportunity is not to suck of the federal tit... its in the entrepreneur spirit that actually creates goods and services.

        Broke? How are we broke?

The economy is tanking, true, but that's because we've been cutting spending for 40 years, now.

Eventually, someone is going to figure out that it doesn't work.

Yeah, I feel for you in earnest. The exact same thing happened to me to when Bush #1 got into office. I was right in the middle of getting hired at the IRS and apparently was only a signature or so away when he froze Federal hiring.

On the plus side, I never did get to work for the IRS. So there is that...

Well Trump did say he is going to reduce regulations, that is one of the few things I actually agree with him, everything is over regulated... Why I need someone to inspect my food?

I hope it does benefit me as a consumer, tomatoes are way too expensive, so if this make them cheaper I am happy with it.

Now... Trump is talking about big investments on the military sector, if you can sell your skills into that sector, then you are gold, because there is where all the money is going.

Actually, that's a pretty good idea.

SST, sorry to hear. You're a positive person ...good things will come your way. (I don't think Trump is responsible though. He has inherited quite a mess.). :/

Umm.. you might want to take a trip down to the library and see what state Food warehousing and distribution was around the beginning of the last century. The conditions were pretty bad.

And consider that the Chinese have shipped us bad or tainted (or plain old fake) food on multiple occasions now. The most recent example of that is in all those "sauces" we get to cook with and put on food. There are a number of manufacturers who have been putting fake ingredients in expecting people not to know any better.

I think there's a pretty good case to be made for food inspection.

It is cold outside, no feeling like going out today... but if there is info on the internet I can definitely check a link or 2.

Anyway, from your suggestion I take that you claim that before food was less... sterilized? And that somehow was a bad thing.. because?

I come from a 3rd world country, where there is not food inspectors, and never had a problem with food, can you imagine that?

And inspectors fail to stop any of that... so what is the point?

I think there's a pretty good case to be made for food inspection.
Here is a better case: you inspect your own food so you know what you are eating, so you stop acting like a child who need dad government to inspect your food because you don't know any better... Go to a library and read a book in how to recognize real spinach from chinese spinach and you will be fine.

You also probably grow more of your own food, or at least have some idea where it comes from. And I'd wager that there is a larger probability that it is locally grown with shorter distribution cycles.

But by all means don't take my word for it...
